M. INDICA L.   Melilotus indica L. is a yellow-flowered plant from the Fabaceae (Leguminosae) family, the family includes approximately 751 genera and 19,000 known species. There are about 19 species in the genus Melilotus, which includes weeds and grassland plants; four of these species are found in Pakistan. They are Melilotus alba, Melilotus officinalis, Melilotus indicus, and Melilotus messanensis. Although the plant is native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa, but is naturalized throughout the world. Sweet clover, sour clover, Indian sweet clover, annual yellow sweet clover, floret sweet clover, common melilot, fragrant melilot, small melilot, sweet melilot are some common names of the plant in English. It is sometimes referred to as King Island Clover in Australia and New Zealand, where it is a naturalized. Melilotus indicus is referred to as sinji and is a vegetable in Pakistan.
